Day 5
We woke up
to the beautiful mountains and gray clouds loomed above us. Despite the light
rain, we continued to the workplace. We continued filling in the rock wall with
a mud-clay mixture. From now on, all four girls are in the same homestay; which
seems like a big sleepover. For lunch, the girls had a Peruvian dish called “lomo
saltado”. Our adventure continued with a tour of the ruins of Ollantytambo after
lunch. The rain seemed to continue and the winds were stronger now that we were
higher up, but the view was amazing. We learned a lot about the history and
technology of the Incan culture. After this enriching trek, we met a local
leader in the Sacred Valley Clinic, who explained to us the some issues and the
lack of accessibility to health clinics. Before returning to our homestays, we
ate a delicious snack at a café called “la esquina”. I want to thank my parents
for letting me go on this trip again. I hope you two have had a relaxing week.

Kids are
doing a great job and have easily settled in their homestays. It is great to
see them interacting with their families and working so hard. I am very proud
of all of them! M&J besos y abrazos,
Sra. Reyes

Looking good, crew! Impressive wall! I'm craving chocolate bread from La Esquina. Here's a lomo saltado recipe if you want to play along at home: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1618,158163-233201,00.html
Can be done over rice, too, but it's less Peruvian that way.
